The 89th Annual Oklahoma 4-H Roundup took place in Stillwater, OK on July 28-30, 2010. Program Coordinator Kevin Bell and FCS Educator Sara West of Marshall County conducted a workshop entitled “Take Action with AgrAbility”. Ten 4-H students learned how to make AgrAbility a service project for them or their club, and what life would be like with a disability through fun and educational demonstrations. The student participants were from all parts of the state of Oklahoma.
Program Assistant Stacy Bauter and Program Coordinator Kevin Bell represented the Oklahoma AgrAbility Project at the Oklahoma Cattlemens’ Association 58th Annual Convention & Trade Show July 29-31, 2010 in Midwest City, OK. Kevin and Stacy had an exhibit that provided information regarding available services, funding national resources and assistive technology for farmers and ranchers with disabilities. The OCA exists to support and defend the state and nation's beef cattle industry. There were approximately 400+ attendees.
Program Coordinator Kevin Bell took part in the 43rd Annual Oklahoma Career and Technology Education Summer Conference on August 2, 2010 in Tulsa, OK. Kevin had a booth that promoted awareness about Oklahoma AgrAbility and he also disseminated information about Assistive Technology to Oklahoma CareerTech teachers, counselors, administrators and state staff. There were over 4,000+ in attendance.
Oklahoma AgrAbility Program Manager Sandra Stevenson conducted a presentation to Canadian County Master Gardeners on August 3, 2010 about the Oklahoma ArgAbility Project. Sandra also hosted an exhibit that displayed resource information, funding options for assistive technology, ergonomic garden tools and accommodating assistive technology.
The Osage County Tallgrass Women in Agriculture conference took place on August 3, 2010 in Pawhuska, OK. Program Coordinator Kevin Bell demonstrated Assistive Technology gardening tools and gadgets for those in attendance at his AgrAbility booth. This was the first Women in Ag of Osage County meeting in 5 years. There were 30 members that attended.
The Oklahoma AgrAbility Project was well represented at the 20th Annual Southern Plains Beef Symposium in Ardmore, OK on August 14, 2010. Program Coordinator Kevin Bell displayed a booth for approximately 400+ in attendance. Kevin talked with the conference goers about how the Oklahoma AgrAbility Project provides education, assistance and support to farmers, ranchers and their families who have a disability or debilitating injury that limits their ability to perform essential farm tasks.
