Nebraska AgrAbility will work with several organizations on a grant received by the Nebraska Center for Rural Affairs to reach veterans interested in returning to or beginning in farming/ranching. Sharry Nielsen, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension educator, represented NE AgrAbility November 23 at the initial meeting of the collaborators, which also includes the Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri projects. Educational workshops and farm tours are being planned for 2012.
Over 50 participants visited the AgrAbility booth at the Fillmore Area Health Fair in early November. Participants ranged in age from high school students through adults. Focus of the exhibit was Arthritis and Agriculture, with displays of ergonomic tools, national and state resources, and contact information. Sharry Nielsen staffed the display, making contact with several potential partners during the day-long event.
Nebraska AgrAbility was in the news with a spot on the Noon News at KHGI-TV in central Nebraska. Sharry Nielsen gave a brief history of the project, cited several clients who have received services through the project, and explained the educational focus for the coming year.
