Steve Swain, the Indiana AgrAbility rural rehabilitation specialist, spoke to the Madison County Junior Leaders about disabilities, accessibility, and the accessibility of their county fairgrounds. The fairground was assessed for accessibility earlier in the day. The presentation discussed some of the barriers for people with disabilities and how they might help to overcome them. It is anticipated that a Bridging Horizons Community Service Project would be a result of the presentation.
A presentation was also made to the Hancock County Master Gardener class. The presentation included accessible pathways, raised beds, modified tools, and ergonomic tools. Master Gardener members are required to volunteer their services and the presentation was to give members ideas for volunteer opportunities.
The Purdue College of Agriculture presents to the public an opportunity to see and experience what each department within the College is researching or what students are learning. The Breaking New Ground John Deere tractor with the Life Essentials lift was an integral part of the Agricultural & Biological Engineering Department exhibit. Rides on the lift were a popular attraction even during the rainy afternoon. The rides lead to opportunities for staff to explain the lift and the modifications available to people with disabilities.
