Kentucky

KY AgrAbility is looking forward to hosting the 2014 NTW. The staff has been busy talking to local and state organizations so that everyone has a chance to experience Bluegrass hospitality. Of course, being in the heart of thoroughbred horse country, white board fences surrounding lush green pastures and beautiful horses is what comes to mind. Keeneland Race Track opens on April 5th for the opening of race season in KY. But this is only one aspect of the area. Historic forts from the time of the westward movement across the Appalachian Mountains, battle fields of the civil war, and the homes of the early leaders of our country can be found close by. Then there is the Bourbon Trail and the Wine Trail for those that would like to experience a different type of agriculture. Check out the Bluegrass Tourism Bureau online for things to do, and of course there will be information on the National AgrAbility website for the 2014 NTW.

KY AgrAbility has a full slate of events for this fall. Coming up is the KARRN Conference held for the second year at Eastern KY University in Richmond, KY on September 25. This event covers all forms of disability including stroke, TBI, spinal cord, and others and will feature vendors and poster presentations along with the conference. Go to www.karrn.org for more information. KARRN is a partner of KY AgrAbility. Staff will also be attending the fall Agriculture and Natural Resource Update meetings, which are attended by all county extension agents in KY. The meeting in the east will be held in Winchester, KY and the west event will be in Owensboro, KY. This two day event is a time to inform new agents about AgrAbility and show others how the project has helped the clients in their county. November is time for the North American Livestock Expo in Louisville and a time to meet people from all over the United States and several other countries and present the AgrAbility Project. During this time, the Empowering Women Veteran Conference will also be happening in Louisville, KY on November 14-17. This conference is with KY AgrAbility partner, Farmer Veteran Coalition. More information can be found at www.farmvetco.org. December brings the KY Farm Bureau Conference in Louisville, Dec 4-7. KY AgrAbility has been invited back to the vendor show and staff look forward to speaking with the many delegates to the conference. As always, KY AgrAbility will be at each Third Thursday Thing at KY State University Research and Demonstration Farm and will be on the program for the November meeting.

KY AgrAbility looks forward to sharing pictures and stories of some clients in future e-Note issues and to seeing everyone at the 2014 NTW.
