In an effort to reduce injuries and help aging farmers remain productive in agriculture, Ohio AgrAbility will be conducting an "I'm not as young as I used to be!" farming and gardening workshop throughout the state. The two-hour workshop will feature topics on: safety for older farmers, assistive technology used for farms and gardening, and tricks of the trade for aging limitations. The workshops are put on by Ohio AgrAbility and hosted through the effort of OSU Extension county offices and local organizations such as county Farm Bureau offices and Area Agencies on Aging. It is a great opportunity for seniors who want to remain productive in agriculture, continue to garden, or stay active outdoors. Highlights will include discussions on mobility, managing arthritic limitations, planning a productive day, applying universal design concepts to the whole property, and showcasing adaptive tools and equipment. Scheduled dates include:
Nov 14 – Stark County
Dec 10 – Auglaize / Shelby Counties
Jan 16 – Noble County
Jan 24 – Hancock County
Feb 22 – Coshocton County
Feb 26 – Ross County
Mar 11 – Ashtabula County
Ohio AgrAbility tried a new approach for hosting the fall OAP advisory board meeting by conducting the meeting through an interactive webinar. The meeting allowed advisory board members to attend the meeting from their own offices, eliminating travel time. Ten advisory members attended the meeting, and several commented that even though it is more of a challenge to interact than in person, it was very efficient and convenient.
