Rod Peterson and Sharry Nielsen staffed an exhibit at the Nebraska Farmers Union state convention, greeting several former clients and introducing AgrAbility to FU members. It was also a great opportunity to network, as Farmers Union is a partner in the effort to bring a Farmer Veteran Coalition chapter to the state.
Another partner working with NE AgrAbility is Nebraska Farm Bureau, which also held its annual meeting and conference in December. Kelly Gewecke and Sharry Nielsen staffed an exhibit highlighting the 2013 accomplishments of NE AgrAbility, and met with Farm Bureau board and foundation members. An added bonus was visiting with former AgrAbility Rural Rehab Specialist Del Ficke, who is now director of membership services for Farm Bureau.
Danielle DeTour, an OT student from Rockhurst University, spent a week with NE AgrAbility, learning about the program and how occupational therapy programs and AgrAbility complement each other. She helped staff the Farm Bureau exhibit, met with AgrAbility staff members, and went on two farm visits. She was able to sit in on two of the Virtual NTW sessions and learn more about the financial issues facing AgrAbility clients. She also spent part of a day shadowing a former AgrAbility intern, Dr. Anna Lewandowski, who is now an OT working in the area.
