CalAg attended the first Conferencia de Promotores, "Promotores Conference," in Woodland, CA, which was sponsored by the project's medical professional collaborators, including Communicare Health Centers, Woodland-Dignity Health Care, Yolo Family Resource Center, and the Department of Pesticide Regulation. A total of 45 male and female promotores were trained on pesticide safety at home and work and on becoming more active to improve health. CalAgrAbility also staffed a booth at the workshops.
CalAg also publishes at least 24 bilingual PSAs per year. In January, UC Agriculture and Natural Resources-ANR Bilingual Media Service interviewed CalAgrAbility on safety topics including working in the fog, farm worker hygiene, and hypothermia. The PSAs are available here and here.
Staff attended a collaborative meeting in Yolo County and presented on the Arthritis Foundation exercise classes. This included a 10-minute demonstration so that agencies can see and experience in the classes. In addition, Temple Grandin, professor of animal science at Colorado State University, spoke to a sold-out crowd at UC-Davis.
CalAg has new collaborators, Woodland Hearing Aid Services Inc., which provides free hearing tests, and a new resource center in Davis, the Center for Families. CalAgrAbility assisted in providing a consumer with low cost hearing aids through the Starkey Foundation.
