Staff attended a veterans and farmers resources workshop in Modesto. Veterans, small farmers, beginning farmers, and Latino farmers took part in this successful workshop. This workshop was the first of a series which will be offered throughout California; CalAgrAbility will be staffing these events. Staff also connected with local agencies and were invited to participate in a Latino farmer workshop in September.
CalAgrAbility was invited to participate in Cultiva la Salud's (Harvest Health) advisory council. CalAgrAbility is taking part in the Healthy Food Access Group and has advocated for supporting beginning farmers and educating on the value of farming as a career. Cultiva La Salud targets the farming communities within Fresno, Kern, and Stanislaus counties.
During Global Accessibility Awareness Day at UC Davis, CalAgrAbility attended the Accessibility Resources for Everyone workshop. The Student Disability Center on campus has a tool that converts documents to ensure that the Adobe Acrobat "Read Out Loud" option works. CalAgrAbility will be converting all the documents on the webpage to this format, allowing for more accessibility.
CalAgrAbility met Graciela Gomez, a soil conservationist from the NRCS Modesto office. Graciela would like CalAgrAbility to present about farming with a disability and ATs at their September 20th meeting for Spanish speaking farmers. She was also looking for trainings to help farmers develop worker safety and compliance. CalAgrAbility staff linked her to WCAHS to learn more about their trainings.
