Transitioning soldiers from Fort Riley, KS, and veterans from across Kansas participated in a farm bus tour on April 29. The bus stopped at the farms of two Kansas AgrAbility customers, Michael Bolte in rural Jewell County and Galen Seehafer in rural Mitchell County. Sponsors of the tour were Kansas AgrAbility, Assistive Technology for Kansans (ATK), and Servicemember Agriculture Vocational Education (SAVE). Twenty-seven soldiers, veterans, and Fort Riley OTs participated in the bus tour with members of the Kansas AgrAbility staff.
A senior design team from the K-State Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department received first place in the Kirmser Undergraduate Research Competition, group category, for a project to help a Kansas AgrAbility customer remove hay bale wrap without leaving the cab of his skid steer. The project entitled "Design of Mechanical System to Remove Net Wrap from Large Round Hay Bales" netted a prize of $3,000. The competition is designed to recognize excellence in research across the entire K-State campus.
