NC AgrAbility Project is partnering with the Wayne County Community Partners Coalition, created by the Wayne County Farmworkers Health and Safety Education Program, to build the health and well being of Wayne County farmworkers and their families. The objective is to connect farmworkers and their families with community resources. The Wayne County Community Partners Coalition will join efforts to identify needs and opportunities for farmworkers and their families. This group will be an avenue for assessment, advice, networking, and partnering to all programs and agencies involved on issues and concerns relating to farmworkers and their families.
The NC AgrAbility Partnership had the opportunity to reach out to the NC Community at two different events: the Southern Farm Show, February 1-3, and the Successful Small Farms Opportunities Conference, February 25.
The Southern Farm Show is the largest agricultural exposition in the Carolinas and Virginia. It hosts over 400 exhibiting companies as well as key industry events, and is known as the region's annual meeting place for farmers and agricultural leaders. In addition, many schools use it as educational field trip.
The Successful Small Farms Opportunities Conference is the place where NC farmers can explore alternative enterprises by speaking with successful producers and university personnel who are already growing and researching specialty enterprises. It gives practical, no-nonsense, hands-on advice that a farmer will need when considering crop and livestock production, market development, and other important business options.
