As KY AgrAbility heads into fall, the list of client visits and educational opportunities continues to grow. With school back in session, the staff will be working with the local schools to talk to 4-H and FFA organizations. One of the groups is the vocational students from the Stewart Home and School near the KSU Research and Demonstration Farm in Frankfort. The boys came to the farm in late August to work in the raised and accessible garden area that KY AgrAbility has developed. They helped weed the beds and planted fall crops. The kale, spinach, radishes, and cabbage, will be ready before frost, and the mums and ornamentals they planted replaced some of the summer flowers that were grown in other beds. They also enjoyed eating the fresh tomatoes and strawberries that were ready and the concord grapes from the vineyard. They will continue to help maintain the garden area as they learn about agriculture.
Traveling to Owensboro in mid-September for the KY Rehabilitation Associations annual conference, staff from KY Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, KY AgrAbility staff, and other rehabilitation facilities, will spend two days discussing ways to help the working people in Kentucky. While there, the KY AgrAbility staff will hold an educational meeting for the staff of Owensboro Rehabilitation to introduce the AgrAbility goals and ways to help the farmers that come to their facility return to work on the farm.
