WV AgrAbility staff was represented at WV Farm Bureau Day, West Virginia State University Day, and Agriculture and Conservation Day during the West Virginia legislative session. During these three days at the state capitol, an informational display highlighting videos on various agricultural assistive technologies, as well as demonstrations of ergonomic gardening tools, were provided to attendees and legislators. Farm hazard identification and noise level education was also provided. Attendees had the opportunity to use a decibel meter to gauge the level of noise and to obtain hearing protection with a demonstration of the correct way to insert foam hearing protectors into the ear. The "Taste of WV" reception provided an opportunity for staff to network and educate agriculture professionals, agriculture agencies, farm bureau members, and legislators, about the options available in assisting WV farmers with disabilities.
Approximately 500 farmers from around West Virginia attended the WV Small Farm Conference. WV AgrAbility staff attended the conference while networking with farmers, service providers, and equipment dealers. An informational exhibit provided participants with an opportunity to use a decibel meter, and over 100 individuals took advantage of the free hearing protection. Farm hazard identification and secondary injury prevention were topics of interest to many of the farmers visiting the exhibit. Video demonstrations of various pieces of assistive technology and modifications of agriculture equipment were provided. AgrAbility staff also presented a session to producers on the use of smart technology to assist in the management of their farm in "There's An App for That."
