Farmer John Reilly on tractorIn June, farmer John Reilly was injured when he was hit by a tractor. The accident pulverized his hips and damaged his organs. To help eliminate the pain while he recovers, Michigan AgrAbility helped design and install a hand lever to help with shifting gears and a lower step to make it safer for him to climb on and off the tractor. This only cost $500 and was made possible thanks to donors. Now he is able to independently do his daily livestock chores while also providing for his family.

Ned Stoller (Michigan AgrAbility) and Curt Bishop, PT (Hulst Jepsen Physical Therapy), presented "Farming With A Shoulder Injury" at the Great Lakes Grower's Expo on December 4. The Expo is a three-day event covering both agricultural and greenhouse topics and general interest topics, including food safety and labor issues. In 2017, 4,000+ people from 40 states and seven Canadian provinces attended.

Like to work in the shop? Raise or lower your shop drill press for a worker standing up or a worker using a wheelchair. A low-profile transmission jack powered by cordless drill does the lifting! Check out the Michigan AgrAbility YouTube channel for this simple and low-cost accommodation.
