California AgrAbility attended a seminar with Dr. Li from the UC Department of Land, Air, and Water Resources on the topic "Human Health Considerations Associated with Wildfire Ash and Biochar." The presentation showed the results of chemical analysis of ash from the Thomas fire. It evaluated potential biochar dust emissions from soil between different plantations and burning extents. Results showed the ash held metals in its composition, adding higher health risks during inhalation, especially for those working outdoors. Dr. Li also evaluated the potential risks of dust from bio-char amended soils. Results showed that most biochars had varying results of increased risk of dust inhalation on the farm.

Mexican consulateCalifornia AgrAbility attended the 8th annual Women's Conference at the Mexican Consulate. This event started as a promotoras gathering and has grown each year. Mental health was the main topic, which included a conversation with Dr. Gaxiola, a former guest and collaborator of the National AgrAbility COI calls. The conversation geared towards learning where communities need support that can be developed by larger programs. Other speakers present were representatives from the Health Education Council and Physicians for a Healthy California.

California AgrAbility attended the monthly Promotores Work Group Meeting in Woodland. This work group is a committee of agencies that work together to promote agency services available to the community. The December meeting focused on voting to make the group an official independent work group in which agencies support each other's efforts to identify individuals or groups that may be eligible for services within the group. One of the signature events of the group is a promotores conference; planning for the annual promotores conference is now underway.
