Kentucky

Kentucky AgrAbility is still working to help the underserved farming populations in the state with emphasis on those with physical and mental limitations. Progress is being made at the Kentucky VA facilities in Lexington through helping residents with accessible gardens. The gardens give the residents an opportunity to learn how to grow their own food while at the facility.

KY AgrAbility will be helping at the state fair in mid-August with the KY Department of Agriculture safety and education booth. This is always a good way to meet farm families and stress farm safety utilizing the rollover tractor demonstration and the grain bin safety and rescue display.

Growing Warrior Project is working with KY AgrAbility to reach as many veterans as possible and present agriculture to them as a viable employment opportunity. Several workshops have been set for this fall to explore these options with Kentucky veterans.

On October 10, the Kentucky Farmer Veteran Coalition Stakeholders Meeting will be held at the KY State University Research Farm in Frankfort, KY. The meeting will include a panel of local resource groups and one of KY farmer veterans. Lunch will be provided, and afterward a session on hemp in Kentucky will be presented. The meeting will conclude with a demonstration of the KSU portable kitchen and the processing equipment that is available at the facility. Various accessible pieces of equipment will be on display for attendees to see and try.
