In September, staff met with the program coordinators of the Denver Botanical Gardens Chatfield teaching facility. They offer veterans a hands-on approach to learning about plant and soil science. Together, the two staffs planned out a three-hour session to raise awareness that farming is not just about putting a hole in the ground, dropping in a seed, and then watering it. Farmers also need to be accountants and financial planners. The veterans in attendance were given tools to explore farm feasibility and sources to seek out and identify land that can be accessed through various ways in addition to outright purchase on the commercial market.
