Texas AgrAbility staff conducted an assessment for a client interested in purchasing a new sub-compact John Deere tractor for his small farm. Recommendations were made for a lift, hand controls, and quick-connect attachments.
The client modified his tractor with homemade hand controls that could be removed for other users. The hand-controls were made with 1/2-inch threaded rod, fittings, and plastic pipe, and includes a weed-eater handle for the grip. The total price for the hand control modifications was around $75.
Ellie Gandara-Castillo, migrant and seasonal farmworker coordinator, attended the Midwest Stream Forum for Farmworker Health and helped with the AgrAbility booth. Around 165 individuals were in attendance for the event and were given resources for accessing AgrAbility services for migrant and seasonal farmworkers.
