Colorado

Tucked away in two small rural areas of Colorado, on its border with New Mexico, are Federal Reservations for the Southern Ute Tribe in Ignacio and the Mountain Ute Tribe outside of Cortez. The people who make up the tribes are often forgotten or bypassed by the larger non-indigenous populations around them. Through contact initially with the veterans of the tribes, Colorado AgrAbility staff's veteran outreach has opened dialog with the Southern Ute Veterans Association to offer AgrAbility trainings targeted to programs available to underserved populations. Staff will participate in several meetings with tribal officials over the next few months intended to pave the way for services that will be available in Ignacio. The Colorado AgrAbility Project looks forward to offering greater detail into this outreach in future e-Notes.
