South Carolina

South Carolina's new associate, a graduate student, and the principal investigator (PI) recently traveled to New Mexico to attend the AgrAbility National Training Workshop. This event provided a valuable opportunity for professional development and team building. The new associate participated in a specialized training session designed specifically for new staff members, where they gained critical insights and foundational knowledge essential for effectively supporting our program's goals. They found the training to be highly informative and particularly relevant to their role, leaving them with a better understanding of how to contribute meaningfully to efforts in South Carolina.

On the first evening of the workshop, the graduate student presented a research poster that illustrated the distribution of disability populations throughout South Carolina. The poster included visual representations of geographic dispersion and demographic insights, bringing about productive conversations with attendees nationwide. This exposure allowed the team to showcase their state's unique needs and challenges while learning from others engaged in similar work.

Throughout the workshop, staff gathered valuable information on potential funding opportunities, effective collaboration strategies with nonprofit organizations, and expanded resources to support individuals with mental disabilities. These insights will enhance program offerings and strengthen the staff's ability to serve diverse populations more effectively.

Additionally, the team deepened their understanding of the AgrAbility mission and the range of opportunities it presents for improving the quality of life for farmers and ranchers with disabilities in South Carolina. The workshop not only provided them with practical tools and resources but also reinvigorated their commitment to the work they do. The event's location was outstanding, offering a scenic and welcoming environment, and the hospitality extended by the hosts made the experience even more enjoyable.
