California AgrAbility staff are currently hosting a public health student for her practicum project. As part of her fieldwork, she has been actively engaging with agricultural communities through California AgrAbility's walking groups. These gatherings incorporate light arthritis-friendly exercises led by a trained instructor and serve as a space to promote movement and social connection.
This month, the student conducted community cohesion surveys to gather insight into participants' sense of belonging and support within their groups. She is now working on summarizing the findings to inform future outreach and engagement efforts.
In addition to supporting the student's project, staff presented to group participants on assistive technologies and low-tech supportive tools that can help individuals with disabilities or age-related physical limitations continue working and living safely.
These walking groups have provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of AgrAbility services and identify potential program participants in a trusted and familiar community setting.
