September 2025

Nebraska

On August 15, Angie Howell (Easterseals Nebraska) and Dr. Aaron Yoder (University of Nebraska) presented virtually to the South Carolina AgrAbility (ABLE) Advisory Committee. They shared Nebraska's experiences since 1995, highlighting project activities, service partners, key initiatives, and funding strategies for assistive technology. The two projects compared approaches, exchanged creative ideas to expand AT funding and education, and discussed wraparound supports for farmers and ranchers, including referrals to disability benefits planning and Ticket-to-Work services.

Nebraska AgrAbility had a fantastic turnout during Older Nebraskans Day at the Nebraska State Fair. Thanks to beautiful weather, a record 1,500 visitors came through the Raising Nebraska Building. The team connected with potential clients, shared information about the program, and celebrated a successful day with ice cream from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Dairy Store.

September is shaping up to be a busy month for Nebraska AgrAbility with a Harvest for Health event, Husker Harvest Days, and OT/PT training. Emily Jacobson has also developed new informational handouts explaining what a worksite assessment looks like for clients and outlining the process with Nebraska VR. These resources will be valuable tools for sharing AgrAbility's services and support.

Slide with 3 pics from different angles showing a John Deere tractor modified with a wheelchair lift One of Nebraska AgrAbility's long-term clients recently shared a fantastic solution that's helping him stay active on the farm. He discovered a custom-made lift right here in Nebraska and had it modified to fit his unique needs. With a large platform added, he can now drive his power chair onto it and lift himself safely into the cab of his tractor and combine. For someone with very weak legs and poor balance, this setup is a total game-changer. Staff are proud to be part of his journey and grateful he allowed us to share this awesome adaptation.
