Wisconsin

AgrAbility of Wisconsin (AAW) staff exhibited at Wisconsin Farm Technology Days from August 5-7. This annual event showcases the latest advancements in agricultural technology and practices, drawing over 40,000 attendees across three days. AAW staff engaged with farmers and attendees, sharing examples of assistive technology and distributing informational materials. Outreach Program Coordinator Michelle Bachand also networked with fellow exhibitors, promoting the AgrAbility program and building connections with agricultural service providers.


Professor Emeritus Dick Straub represented AgrAbility of Wisconsin at the Columbia County Corn Growers Annual Farm Safety Field Day on August 6. Held at the Arlington Agricultural Research Station, the event featured hands-on learning and networking opportunities for 45 participants. Dr. Straub provided an overview of the AAW program and shared safety tips for transporting implements on public roadways.


AgrAbility of Wisconsin staff members Michelle Bachand, AgrAbility outreach program coordinator, and Jeff Kratochwill, Easterseals FARM Team program director, presented to the OT/PT staff of the Marshfield Clinic System on August 21. The virtual session introduced 35 occupational and physical therapy professionals to the AgrAbility program and its resources for patients working in agriculture. The presentation was recorded for those unable to attend live.


Michelle Bachand joined Extension horticulture educator Margaret Murphy for a presentation titled "Gardening for Life." The session explored the physical, emotional, and mental health benefits of gardening. Michelle shared information about AgrAbility's support for small-scale vegetable farmers, including those involved in CSAs and farmers markets. Participants had the opportunity to try out assistive technology tools during the event.


Jeff Kratochwill appeared on the Barn Talk Podcast to discuss farm safety and AgrAbility's impact. The episode covered real-life stories of farm accidents, the challenges of seeking help, and the work of Easterseals and AgrAbility of Wisconsin in supporting farmers. The Barn Talk Podcast has over 254,000 subscribers, and the episode received more than 4,000 views within 48 hours. Watch the episode HERE.
