The AgrAbility staff is spending more time operating in rural mountain areas on unpaved and slippery roads, not uncommon during the rainy seasons in October and November.
The efforts focus on advocating and connecting small farmers with big farm holders to consolidate the transportation of harvest to markets to reduce losses when many transport trucks fail to reach many farms due to poor road conditions. The initiative aims to address the persistent challenge to access markets by AgrAbility for Africa clients every wet season. During these times, food prices rise in urban areas, while produce rots in the fields.
The AgrAbility campaign is not only intended to tackle post-harvest loss but also to address health access challenges faced by the elderly, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities as prices go up for the same journeys. Part of the long-term solution is a quad bike initiative, designed to support one farming family at a time in overcoming the health access gaps and harvest loss that comes with the rains.
