Lisa Becker sharing a PowerPoint titled BRINGING ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY TO THE FARMOn October 8, Lisa Becker and Marty Cotterman from Life Essentials delivered presentations during the Easterseals Crossroads INDATA full-day training, "Assistive Technology for Individuals with Mobility Impairments". Attendees received an overview of the extensive support available to farmers and other stakeholders, Marty Cotterman showing a young woman on a flat-bed truck lift how to operate the lifthighlighting the AgrAbility Toolbox and website. Lisa also discussed the Indiana AgrAbility AT Expos, emphasizing their value as hands-on opportunities to explore farm-related assistive technologies. And Marty provided demonstrations in the parking lot of a truck modified with a LifeLyft and discussed case studies of individuals in farming.


Ned Stoller wearing a shoulder exoskeleton to demonstrate it's use in front of OTs at AT ExpoIn collaboration with Easterseals Crossroads, Indiana AgrAbility hosted the Agricultural Assistive Technology Expo at Huntington University - an inspiring, hands-on event showcasing how innovative assistive technologies are transforming the way farmers with disabilities can work safely, efficiently, and independently. OT students looking at sheep in pens at Huntington University AT ExpoThe event brought together occupational therapy students, vocational rehabilitation staff, and other professionals to explore tools and adaptive machinery designed to make agricultural tasks more accessible. The primary goal of the event was to show participants how farmers impacted by disabilities can continue farming productively and improve their quality of life. Attendees gained practical experience with modified tools and technologies that reduce the physical strain of daily farm work.

OT students outdoors learning to drive a John Deere tractor at AT ExpoParticipants noted that the expo revealed the significant effort, skill, Huntington University faculty and Chuck Baldwin sharing in front of a classroom filled with OTs at AT Expoand technology involved in farming and provided them with the supports needed as they treat patients in agriculture. It was important to help participants understand the realities of farm life and the unique challenges farmers face, especially when living with disabilities.
