The AgrAbility for Africa staff with the expert support of Village Health Teams (VHTs), through farm visits, are working to limit mental health impact and economic distress - especially as farmers struggle to recover after losing livestock - predominately poultry, cattle, and goats - to theft. This is a rampant problem across Uganda and many parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. The unfortunate reality is hindering inclusion and economic progress.
Beyond educating farmers on prevention measures, AgrAbility for Africa staff and the VHTs are helping farmers with disabilities to cope with loss, informing farmers about available non-profit and government programs that can help them return to farming, and helping to facilitate the creation of village security teams to monitor transport routes for stolen animals and to improve security on farms.
