AgrAbility for Africa

AgrAbility for Africa staff are working to widen the logistical reach of village health teams (VHTs) to reduce the victimization of mothers and children with disabilities through community education and mental health support delivered via peer groups to stop falsehoods linking congenital disabilities to spiritual curses or so-called moral "failings."

The AgrAbility for Africa staff are intensifying the efforts to confront ignorance and dismantle deep-seated cultural myths-while also addressing institutional gaps that fuel blame, isolation, family rejection, and social exclusion resulting in stigma that can be devastating, as with the example of the abandonment of children like Asma, a three-year-old girl who has been denied access to rehabilitation care because of discrimination and misinformation.
