California

Esmeralda Mandujano, program manager for California AgrAbility, delivered a virtual presentation at the WorkAbility Spring Conference. The WorkAbility program helps students with disabilities prepare for postsecondary education, employment, and independent living through career exploration, training, and transition services.

During the session, Esmeralda drew on her experience supporting farmers and agricultural workers living with disabilities, injuries, and chronic conditions. She shared practical approaches to maintaining health and safety in agriculture, with a focus on mental well-being and proactive outreach. Students left with a deeper understanding of how caring for both physical and mental health supports long-term resilience and success in agriculture.

At California's Ag Day at the Capitol 2026 in Sacramento, the California AgrAbility team hosted a table and connected with professionals and community members from all over the state. The event was centered around the theme"California Leads,"celebrated the resilience of the agricultural community, and highlighted the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer. There were displays of local crops and commodities, along with educational exhibits.

The team shared resources, answered questions, and talked with attendees about how to better support people in agriculture and their families who are navigating disabilities, injuries, or chronic health conditions.
