State and Regional AgrAbility Project News

California

CalAgrAbility conducted five Get Moving: Arthritis Prevention and Pain Management Exercise Program classes during the month of March. more

Staff attended the annual Inter-Agency Meeting for migrant housing in Yolo County. more

This month, CalAgrAbility was able to sign up consumers for free cataract screenings through the Mission Cataract USA program with Kaiser Permanente in Rancho Cordova, California. more

CalAgrAbility continues to use Twitter as a networking method, with 116 followers. Follow CalAgrAbility at twitter.com/calagrability.

Georgia

AgrAbility of Georgia hosted a booth at the Team Agriculture Georgia Spring Workshop on March 14 in Fort Valley, Georgia. more

AgrAbility of Georgia is sponsoring an iPad and Farming with a Disability webinar presented by Dr. Therese Willkomm on Monday, May 13 from 3:30 pm-5:00 pm EDT. more

Indiana

Amber Wolfe presented a one-hour arthritis workshop to the Area Agency on Aging 3 in Fort Wayne, Indiana on February 28, with 58 case managers in attendance.

Area Agency on Aging 1 sponsored a one-hour presentation on gardening with arthritis in South Bend, Indiana on March 12; Amber Wolfe presented to 11 people.

Amber Wolfe presented a one-hour arthritis workshop to the Area Agency on Aging 1 in Crown Point, Indiana on March 18, with 22 case managers in attendance.

Linda Tarr hosted booths at the Land of Limestone Master Gardeners' Lawn and Garden Show, the Orange County Ag Day, and the SIILC Health Fair.

Minnesota

The Minnesota AgrAbility Project hosted a booth at the at the 9th annual North American Farm & Power Show held at the Four Seasons Complex located in Owatonna, Minnesota. more

Missouri

Willard Downs participated in the Community of Practice (CoP) Farm and Ranch eXtension for Safety and Health Leadership (FReSH) team meeting.

Van Ayers assembled a team of Extension regional specialists to showcase the Missouri AgrAbility Program and Prevention of Secondary Injury interactive displays and disseminate programmatic information at the Cousin Carl Farm Show. more

The Brain Injury Association of Missouri hosted a Survivor and Family Southwest Region Seminar to answer questions as survivors and their families transition to life with brain injury at the Mercy Medical Center. more

Diana Baldwin presented an AgrAbility "Agriculture and Wellness" program followed by a hands-on demonstration of ergonomic garden tools at the Native Plants and Sprouts and Roots Conference. more

Karen Funkenbusch and Willard Downs secured a Monsanto grant to support four AgrAbility clients and their caregivers to attend the 2013 National AgrAbility Training Workshop.

Jackie Allenbrand reported that on March 7 she attended the MERIL networking event held for Buchanan & Andrew Counties and shared information about AgrAbility programming and PHARM Dog. more

NC AgrAbility had a featured display and presenter at several conferences and meetings in the month of March. more

NC AgrAbility was a featured display at the Duplin County Commissioner's meeting on March 4. more

East Carolina University College of Allied Health Sciences partner Dr. Mary Hildebrand was invited to present the AgrAbility health care professionals curriculum and lead students in a farm visit at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill March 28.

Nebraska

Nebraska AgrAbility peers met for an update and networking session in March. more

Sharry Nielsen used the materials developed by graduate student Anna Lewandowski, OT, at a Discovery Night for 4-H youth. more

Ohio

The Ohio AgrAbility Program recently hosted a workshop attended by 122 individuals from various organizations including County Boards of Developmental Disabilities, National AgrAbility, State AgrAbility Projects, OSU Extension staff, existing agricultural workforce programs, and organizations looking to establish an agricultural workforce program. more

An Ohio AgrAbility Project client has been re-appointed by Governor Kasich to the Ohio Statewide Independent Living Council. more

An Ohio AgrAbility Advisory Committee Meeting was held on March 21. more
